KYOSHI MUHAMMAD ABDUR RAHMAN

Being born in Manhattan and raised in Brooklyn Muhammad started his martial arts training at Jerome Mackey's School of Judo under Sensei Toyotaro Miyazaki back in the summer of 1969. Mr. Miyazaki trained him in Shotokan Karate until the early 80's when Miyazaki's cousin, Sensei Masakasu Takahashi came from Japan. Sensei Takahashi trained him until the early 90's when he began studying Sanuces Jujitsu under Shihan Pedro Valera while a student at New York City Community College. From that day on he acquired a love for Jiu Jitsu and began training with Pedros instructor Professor Moses Powell at the Atlantic Ave school.

Kyoshi holds a 5th degree in Shotokan Karate and a 6th degree in Kuroshi-Do under Soke Haisan Kaleak . Kyoshi Muhammad is considered an expert in a variety of weapons. Kyoshi Muhammad has also trained in and has show great proficiency Judo, Aikido and Kung Fu .

 As a competitor, Kyoshi has fought in Tournaments from the East Coast to the West Coast winning over 26 grand championships and 153 trophies. During the 70's and in the 80's he fought as Donnie Collins, and was known as Sensei Miyazaki's number one student and the one to beat. He fought on the USA fighting Team representing the United States in Venezuela.

He also competed at Sunnyside Gardens, Madison Square Garden's Felt Forum and Manhattan Center fighting the top fighters of the times to include: Errol Bennett, George Crayton, Soke S. Papasan Canty, Ron Henderson, Fred Miller and Michael Look-Up Sledge.

Kyoshi Muhammad had three schools in Brooklyn and Queens, where he taught Shotokan, Jujitsu and Kuroshi-Do and has developed a following of students in Casa Blanco, Morocco were he is hoping to open his next school Inshallah.

He has been inducted into two Halls of Fame: Pierre T. Rene's Hall of Fame and The World Karate Union (W.K.U.) Hall of Fame. In the late 70's after adopting the Islamic religion, Kyoshi changed his name to Muhammad A. Rahman.
